IT was a fierce competition among the best medical specialists across the 54 African countries in the continent. The keen contest lasted for a period of 24 months (two years). None of the eligible participants were aware of the silent selection process, as the intention to select the best brain from Africa in the field of healthcare and medicine was to avoid any undue influence or biased pressure from family, friends and business partners of the participants in the rigorous competition in celebration of Naija Standard Newspaper Inc USA Annual 15th Year Media Anniversary in Texas, United States of America. At the end of the massive votes’ tabulation from Africans at home and Africans in the Diaspora, one of Nigeria’s renowned Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, known in the global medical circle as ‘godfather of Invitro Fertilization’, Dr. Ibrahim Wada, a recipient of the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), highest national award in Nigeria, in a landslide milestone victory of over Ninety-Nine million votes emerged winner, ‘North America Africa’s Iconic IVF Medicine of the World Award’, a feat no African has ever attained, thereby becoming the First Nigerian to have received this global, golden prized honour.
By the award won, Dr. Wada was automatically inducted into the Texas Golden Healthcare Elite Hall of Fame (Class of 2025) for his achievements in medical research, healthcare reform, and transformative leadership in Nigeria’s health sector.

To present this heroic award in Nigeria as requested by millions of Africans who insisted that “Charity begins at home and that the honour must be presented on African soil”, the Board of Trustees (BOT) from our Texas’ Media Headquarters directed six of our Board of Directors to fly down from Dallas Forth Worth, DFW Airport, Texas to Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja as to officially have the award won on merit handed down to Dr. Wada at the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, the nation’s capital.
After arrival in Nigeria, four of Naija Standard Newspaper Inc USA Board of Directors had flown on a first-class flight Friday, July 24th, 2026, to Accra, Ghana on the invite of the Office of the President of the Republic of Ghana for high-powered international media projects, the rest members of our directorates stayed behind in Abuja.

As such on Tuesday, July 22nd, 2026, at 10:00am, two of our Board of Directors, Dr. George Elijah Otumu, Executive Editor & Group Managing Director, Naija Standard Newspaper Inc USA, Dr. Mrs. Mary Otumu, Director of Administration & Chief Press Secretary, Naija Standard Newspaper Inc USA in company of Albert Olawunmi, Videographer and Photo Editor, Naija Standard Newspaper, Lagos branch office visited Dr. Wada at the Nisa Medical Hospital, located at Jabi, Abuja where he is the Chief Executive Officer/Founder for the legendary award presentation with a Texas’ Customized Banner which we visibly placed on display at his office.
Obviously, Dr. Wada was surprised at the entire process and wondered if it was all a dream. His words: “I am still in a shock. I am still wondering if this whole event is a dream. I know hard work pays. Right from my childhood, I had my mind made up to always save lives and I am glad to have followed my heart in positively adding value to humanity.”
In a celebratory mood, Dr. Wada threw open a lavish dinner at the famous, VIP Nisa Wellness Retreat on Tapeta Street, tucked along the British Village, Wuse 2, Abuja on Monday, July 27th, 2026.

As early as 5:30pm, guests started arriving. Significantly, the celebrant, Dr. Wada, Mrs. Rabi Wada (wife) Director of Administration at Nisa Medical Group, Dr. Wada’s medical doctor daughter, Abdulmalik Wada, a hardworking entrepreneur; all the directorates of Nisa Medical Group were present while Halita Habi Adekunle, Group Head Legal / Legal Adviser at Nisa Medical Group in Abuja anchored and compered the ceremony.
Also in attendance was a guest of the celebrant from the United States who specialize in Information Technology.
At about 30 minutes after, the event kicked off in a relaxed atmosphere in an ambience of conviviality, laughter, exchange of pleasantries, as soul music played non-stop rocking into the night.

The highpoint of the ceremony were the moments the citation of Dr. Wada was read, while BEN TV London, biggest Africa’s terrestrial digital television network in the United Kingdom and Europe beamed the event on a LIVE broadcast to millions of people around the world and a group picture was undertaken as the dinner wind down.
In the citation, read by Dr. Otumu, “The honour followed an extensive investigative assessment and editorial review of distinguished African medical professionals in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.”
This Texas’ media organization stated that Dr. Wada emerged as the overall winner after scoring the highest in its internal evaluation, which focused on the impact of medical breakthroughs, scientific innovation, reproductive healthcare advancement, and contributions to fertility medicine across Africa.
The American newspaper’s Executive Editor described Dr. Wada as an exceptional medical professional whose contributions have transformed fertility medicine and healthcare delivery in Nigeria and across the African continent. He said the award was in recognition of Dr. Wada’s decades of excellence, innovation, and unwavering commitment to improving healthcare through cutting-edge medical technology, research, and patient-centered care.

Dr. Otumu noted that Dr. Wada’s pioneering role in IVF medicine, introduction of robotic-assisted surgery, and continuous investment in world-class healthcare services had distinguished him among his peers, making him a deserving recipient of the prestigious international honour.

In his acceptance remarks, Dr. Ibrahim Wada dedicated the award to the hardworking staff of the NISA Medical Group, describing them as the driving force behind the institution’s numerous achievements.

Dr. Wada, founder of the Nisa Medical Group, obtained his MBBS degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1980, held residency posts at Jos University Teaching Hospital (1982-1986), Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge UK (1986-1987) and Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King’s Lynn (1988-1999). He was Clinical Research Fellow in Reproductive Medicine at Manchester Fertility Services (1989-1990) and St. Mary’s Hospital, Manchester (1991-1992).
He is a Fellow of Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRCOG) UK, Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS) and has held Consultant posts at Bourn Hall Clinic, Cambridge in (1992-1994), Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital (1994-1999) and a Chief Consultant at the National Hospital, Abuja.
He was the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC) at National Hospital from 2002 to 2004. He became the Medical Director of Garki Hospital Abuja from 2007 to 2009 and now the Medical Adviser.
In addition to his medical qualifications, Dr. Wada holds a Master of Business Administration in International Hospitals and Healthcare Management from the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management in Germany.
